This 5 day course, designed for the graduate of the Day Skipper program and marked Coastal Navigation program or people of equivalent experience, will expand your experience by navigating some of the stronger current passes. This course touches lightly on the basics as a review and continues on to more advanced levels of anchoring, sail trim, use of a cruising chute, heavy weather tactics, cruise planning, navigation and night passages. This level is commonly a prerequisite to bareboat chartering.

As a sailing school, we provide the highest level of instruction, from beginner to offshore, by using the most comprehensive and modern methods of instruction, the most personable and knowledgeable instructors and the finest yachts. To ensure optimum personal attention, there is a limit to the number of students per course.
We have chosen certification for international recognition, unsurpassed beginner to offshore modular workbook system, and the quality of instructors developed by the clinics. Our certification also qualifies the holder for significant insurance discounts on privately owned vessels and meets the requirements for the Canadian Coast Guard Operator Licensing Standard.
Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing (ASA101) and Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA103) certifications.
Description: Demonstrated ability to skipper a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat (or catamaran, if course is conducted on such) of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. Course is conducted as a live-aboard cruise of at least 48 hours. Knowledge of provisioning, galley operations, boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, routine maintenance procedures, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation including basic chart plotting and GPS operation, multiple-anchor mooring, docking, health & safety, emergency operations, weather interpretation, and dinghy/tender operation.
Coastal Skipper -The holder is certified as the skipper and navigator the be responsible for the safety of his/her vessel and crew, for coastal passages within 50 miles of a safe harbor in coastal/tidal waters where navigational hazard exist day or night with good visibility competent to navigate a cruising vessel safely, in coastal/tidal waters, within 25 miles of safe harbor, by day, using charts, a hand bearing compass, GPS, and navigational aids.
Prerequisites: Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Navigation Standards; First Aid with CPR Certificate and a VHF radio certificate
Coastal Skipper courses begin at 1600 hrs on the first day returning at 1600 hrs on the last day. High season is July & August.
Intermediate Crew Standard - To be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sailing yacht of 9 to 12 meters, sloop rigged with an inboard engine, in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. The standard emphasizes on-the-water skills at a level acceptable for bare boat chartering for extended cruises in coastal waters.

We do this route for more adventurous folk. Fly into Sidney and out of Port hardy. Good experience for sailors wanting to do solo sailing training. You may want to do the Alaska route, this would be good training to understand the rapids up north.
